Republican Congressman Mark Meadows found at least one good thing in the Green New Deal proposal being pushed by Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The bill was recently calculated to cost Americans upwards of $93 trillion as looks to drastically change the landscape of the American energy and infrastructure systems. But Meadows said its push for green energy could help Chick-fil-A out in a big way.
Check it out, via the Washington Examiner:
“With this ‘Green New Deal,’ they are trying to get rid of all the cows,” Meadows quipped. “But I’ve got good news, Chick-fil-A stock will go way up because we’re going to be eating more chicken.”
The joke referenced a “frequently asked questions” page posted on Ocasio-Cortez’s website that suggested the Green New Deal, a resolution she introduced this month with Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., would require the elimination of airplane travel and cows. The page was later retracted by the firebrand liberal.
Meadows, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, made the comments alongside Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, during a segment at the event organized by the American Conservative Union called “Marketing Marxism: There’s Nothing New About the Green New Deal.” The duo, however, spent more time talking about American greatness.

During his speech, Meadows also criticized Michael Cohen and his credibility and ripped into Democrats for pushing impeachment.
Per the Hill:
The two leaders of the conservative House Freedom Caucus were appearing at the annual Conservative Political Action Committee conference and were scheduled to speak Thursday at an event billed as a discussion on the Green New Deal.
Instead, the two members, who both slammed Cohen’s credibility during Wednesday’s House Oversight Committee hearing, focused on the former personal attorney to Trump.
“This is step one in the Democrats’ crazy efforts to impeach the president of the United States,” said Jordan, Oversight’s ranking member.
“Really what’s happening is they’re trying to lay the foundation for truly impeachment, but it’s not just impeachment, it’s taking way everything that is foundational to who we are,” said Meadows, the Freedom Caucus’s chairman.
Jordan and Meadows also took the opportunity to slam Democrats for what they say is an embrace of socialism, citing the Green New Deal, an effort to address climate change and inequality by pushing money into green jobs, and a proposal from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to implement a 70 percent marginal tax rate on income above $10 million.
“They are embracing socialism,” Meadows said.
“It’s all about trying to change who we are as nation. It’s time that we quit apologizing for our greatness,” he added to an applauding crowd. “We’ve got to get to a point where we celebrate capitalism.”
