Netflix Hires Former Obama Official To Board Of Directors, Conservatives Are Already Boycotting

On Thursday, Netflix announced the addition of former President Obama’s National Security Advisor and United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice to its board of directors.

The decision by the video streaming service provider immediately enraged conservatives, some of whom are already vocalizing their intention to boycott the company.

As Yahoo News reports Rice directed the National Security Council under Obama, which “put her in charge of foreign and national security policy, intelligence and military efforts in the years following the 2012 attack on the US embassy in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead.”

Here’s more:

Rice came under fire from Republican lawmakers who accused her of underplaying the attack as a spontaneous act of violence in response to an anti-Muslim film, while Obama admitted it was a premeditated attack.

She was also berated for inappropriately “unmasking” the names of associates of President Donald Trump that appeared in intelligence reports last year.

Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings said in a statement, however, that the streaming service was “delighted” with its new hire.

“For decades, she has tackled difficult, complex global issues with intelligence, integrity and insight and we look forward to benefiting from her experience and wisdom.”

Rice said she was thrilled to be joining a “cutting-edge company whose leadership, high-quality productions and unique culture” she admired deeply.

And, via ABC News:

She was a former U.S. diplomat and served as national security adviser under President Barack Obama until 2017.

Rice was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations when she became especially controversial in the days after the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya that took the lives of four Americans, including ambassador Chris Stevens.

Rice was strongly criticized for comments she made on several Sunday talk shows, when using intelligence agency “talking points,” said the attacks were “spontaneous” referring to protests against a controversial anti-Islam movie and appearing to downplay how the attack came about.

Per the report, “Some conservative online users, however, were not so thrilled, threatening to cancel their Netflix subscriptions in response to Rice’s appointment.”

Check out these responses:

Conservative pundit Charlie Kirk tweeted, “Susan Rice is what happens when you stay loyal to the Obama machine. She lied about the Benghazi attacks and blamed it on an internet video. She was the lead behind the illegal unmasking of Trump allies in the transition. And now she is added to the @netflix board. Astonishing.”

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said, “[email protected] doubles down in support of Obama corruption — compromised Susan Rice, who lied repeatedly on both Benghazi and the unmasking issue joins its Board of Directors.”

NRA Spokeswoman Dana Loesch responded, “The perfect place for a former staffer who blamed a terror attack on a poorly-made short film released long before said attack took place.”
