Positive News: Celebrities Are Donating And Finding Creative Ways To Thank Essential Workers

While many celebrities have used their fame to encourage people to follow health guidelines and continue to social distance, several others are using their fortune to help on the front lines of the coronavirus relief effort.

Billboard.com reports: “Some musicians are sharing their talents, providing live streams of performances to keep fans entertained. Others are donating not only their time but their tremendous resources, to provide aid to the less fortunate in their communities and around the world.”

The list of celebrities is lengthy (and this editor regrets not being able to credit everyone lending a hand).

Rappers Jay-Z and Meek Mill have donated more than 130,000 surgical masks to frontline, essential personnel at correctional facilities.

“COVID-19 spreads most quickly in crowded and closed environments, and our jails and prisons are at high risk for an outbreak,” the duo said on their REFORM Alliance website.

Elton John and his foundation, who have a history of trying to eradicate HIV and AIDS, are “distributing medicines, testing, and preventative treatment.” In addition, Billboard reports they are helping “frontline partners to prepare for, and respond to, the pandemic and its affects on HIV prevention and care for the most marginalized communities.”

Singer song-writer Miley Cyrus and her boyfriend, Australian singer Cody Simpson, brought meals to healthcare workers.

“So grateful for these true legends of our time dedicating their lives to battling this pandemic,” Simpson said in a video posted on his Instagram. “Show some love to yours in your community!”

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has announced he will be setting up a $1 billion fund to help in relief efforts.

NFL stars Russell Wilson, Drew Breese, and Peyton Manning have also contributed to the effort.

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback and his wife, Ciara, donated a million meals to the Food Lifeline, which helps those in need in areas in Western Washington.

“We want to encourage everyone out there to join us in whatever way you can, big or small,” Ciara said last month when the couple first announced the donation. “Everything makes a difference.”

The Kansas City Star reports New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees donated $5 million to help with coronavirus relief efforts in Louisiana.

As the Western Journal reports, Manning and his wife, Ashley, donated meals to healthcare workers at the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
