Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she “can’t think of anything dumber” than the U.S. Congress voting to limit President Trump’s powers in dealing and responding to the nation of Iran.
Speaking on “Fox & Friends.” Sanders said it should be the president who determines time-sensitive military operations in Iran, not Congress.
“I can’t think of anything dumber than allowing Congress to take over our foreign policy,” Sanders said during the interview, the Western Journal reports.
“They can’t seem to manage to get much of anything done. I think the last thing we want to do is push powers into Congress’ hands and take them away from the president,” she added.
She also hit back at Democratic criticisms that Trump was wrong to take out Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
“Any Democrat that doesn’t understand that America is safer now that one of the most dangerous terrorists in the world is rotting in hell is completely naive and completely misses what we need to have in a foreign policy, and the last thing I want to do is see them take power away from President Trump and put it into their own hands,” Sanders continued.
“I don’t think anything could be worse for America than that,” she added.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was among many Democrats who criticized President Trump’s decision to kill Soleimani, said it further escalates violence in the region.

“Tonight’s airstrike risks provoking further dangerous escalation of violence,” Pelosi said in a statement on Jan. 2. “America — and the world — cannot afford to have tensions escalate to the point of no return,” Pelosi said in a statement last week.
“The full Congress must be immediately briefed on this serious situation and on the next steps under consideration by the Administration, including the significant escalation of the deployment of additional troops to the region,” the Speaker added.
According to the Western Journal, the House of Representatives voted a resolution limiting Trump’s military capabilities on Thursday, passing it with a vote of 224 to 194.
“We deserve the respect from the administration,” Pelosi said, arguing for the resolution, “that Congress deserves under the Constitution.”
“The Constitution of the United States calls that there be cooperation when initiating hostilities,” she added.
The vote to pass the resolution saw a couple of members from both parties flip their votes.
Republican members Matt Gaetz, Francis Rooney, and Thomas Massie voted backed the Democratic measure while Democratic members Ben McAdams, Joe Cunningham, Elaine Luria, Kendra Horn, Stephanie Murphy, Josh Gottheimer, Max Rose and Anthony Brindisi voted against it.
