Biden Erroneously Claims His New Tax Credit Would Put ‘720 Million Women Back Into The Workforce’

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden claims his new child tax credit “would put 720 million women back into the workforce.”

There are just a few problems…

There were never 720 million women in the workforce, to begin with. There is not even 720 million people in the workforce, or 720 million people of working age in the United States because there are not 720 million people living in the country.

“You get a tax break for a race horse. Why in god’s name shouldn’t we provide an $8,000 tax credit for everybody who has childcare costs,” Biden said during AFL-CIO’s presidential summit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Breitbart News reports. “It would put 720 million women back into the workforce. It would increase the GDP—to sound like a wonk here—by about eight-tenths of one percent. It would grow the economy.”

Breitbart adds: “The statement left many in attendance and those on social media confused, as the entire U.S. has a population estimated to be around 330 million. It is unclear what number the former vice president was attempting to reference.”

Here’s more from Breitbart:

The gaffe was only the latest in a string that has left even the former vice president’s staunchest allies concerned about his fitness for office. Since entering the presidential race, Biden has repeatedly confused time and place — most infamously in August when he claimed to be vice president during the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, which took place nearly a year after he left office. Biden has also on multiple occasions forgotten the name of his former running mate, Barack Obama, while touting their work together in the White House.

All of that has left many on the left wondering if Biden is really the Democrats’ best hope for beating President Donald Trump in 2020. Jamil Smith, a senior writer for Rolling Stone magazine, summed up the pervading sentiment on the left when he said there was “no explanation that makes” Biden look good after the former vice president’s Parkland blunder.

The Daily Wire similarly reports that fellow Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker has expressed some concern about Biden’s countenance and memory:

“I think we are at a tough point right now, because there’s a lot of people concerned about Joe Biden’s ability to carry the ball all the way across the end line without fumbling,” Booker said after the third Democratic presidential debates in Houston. And I think that Castro had really legitimate concerns about can he be someone in a long grueling campaign … and has every right to call out.”

“I think there were a lot of moments where a number of us were looking on the stage when he tends to go on sometimes. At one point, he was talking about communities like mine listening to record players,” he continued. “I don’t remember the last time I saw a record player … But there are definitely moments where you listen to Joe Biden and you just wonder.”

The Trump campaign released the following video on Biden on Tuesday, captioned by those very words: “You just wonder…”
