Biden Defies Dems With Policy Position—Liberals Erupt In A Fury

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has recently been reminded that there is no room for civility in the Democrat Party.

As the Hill reports, Biden is the only 2020 contender on the Democratic side to support the Hyde Amendment—a policy that prevents Medicare and other federal programs from paying for abortions.

Throughout Biden’s career, he has maintained the position that it is a state or a person’s responsibility to provide an abortion, not the federal government. Leftists have undoubtedly hoped that Biden would shift this position more in line with more progressive presidential candidates.

“As a senator from Delaware, Biden once voted to let states overturn Roe v. Wade. He also supported the Mexico City Policy, which bans federal aid to foreign organizations that provide or promote abortions,” the Hill reports.

Here’s more:

Former Vice President Joe Biden infuriated abortion rights advocates Wednesday when his campaign confirmed he supports a policy that blocks Medicaid and other federal health programs from paying for abortions, making him the only Democratic presidential candidate to hold that position.

Biden’s support of the Hyde amendment puts him at odds with party leaders, congressional Democrats and his 2020 competitors amid growing momentum to repeal the federal prohibition.

And:

“Joe Biden has been disappointing on reproductive rights for decades,” said Erin Matson, a reproductive rights activist who has worked with NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and co-founded Reproaction, an abortion rights group.

“I am disappointed to see that he’s failing to read the room with Democratic primary voters and the general public who are sick and tired of restrictions on abortion and old, out of touch white men trying to put restrictions on women,” she added.

The Hyde amendment was first passed more than 40 years ago in response to the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling, which established a woman’s right to abortion. It’s been reauthorized in annual government spending bills ever since, with votes from Democrats and Republicans.

These Hyde Amendment comments are not the only comments Biden has made this week to infuriate those on the Left.

After previously receiving criticism from his supporters and others on the Left for calling Vice President Mike Pence a “decent guy,” Biden recently committed the same error. This time, Biden called Republican Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker a “decent guy.”

“You got a governor — and I’m not going to get in your politics — who is a decent guy. But the rest of the guys down there are afraid to take this guy on,” Biden said, via the Washington Examiner. “But guess what: The way you deal with that and unify the country is you expose what’s happening.”

Expect more liberal outrage to come soon…
