Trump Trolls Dems With Obama, Clinton Quotes On Border Security

President Trump knows that members of the Democrat Party previously supported the idea of increased border security and other measures to deter illegal immigration but are refusing to do so now because he is president.

Trump knows this to be the case and has taken to Twitter to remind Democratic members what their own leaders said about the issues in the past.

In the tweet, the president quoted then-Senator Obama who said in 2005, “We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked…”

Trump also quoted Hillary Clinton who was the Democratic frontrunner in 2015, just ahead of her presidential run: “I voted, when I was a Senator, to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in…”

The comment followed a shutdown negotiation meeting between Vice President Pence, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and other administration officials and representatives of Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.

While Pence described the meeting as “productive,” Trump said “not much headway” was made.

Here’s more, from USA Today:

The partial government shutdown over funding for a border wall reached a milestone Sunday, now tying for the third longest on record without any end in sight due to bitter negotiations.

Senior congressional aides and top White House officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, are scheduled to meet again in the nation’s capital after hours of talks Saturday did not lead to a compromise.

Pence’s office described Saturday’s meeting at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, next door to the White House, as “productive” with Democratic sources saying those in the room urged President Donald Trump to reopen the government and back off his request for more than $5 billion to construct a wall along the southern U.S. border.

The president admitted on Twitter after the Saturday meeting that “not much headway” was made during the talks but again pressed for border security, a sign neither side is wavering in the bickering that has left thousands of federal employees working with no pay.

“V.P. Mike Pence and team just left the White House. Briefed me on their meeting with the Schumer/Pelosi representatives. Not much headway made today,” Trump tweeted on Saturday afternoon. “Second meeting set for tomorrow. After so many decades, must finally and permanently fix the problems on the Southern Border!”

Here’s even more, via the Washington Examiner:

The discussions, led by Pence, did not focus on the dollar figure for the southwest border wall that has been a sticking point in the stalemate between President Trump and congressional Democrats.

Instead, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen briefed congressional leadership staff on what the vice president’s office termed the crisis at the southern border.

The vice president’s office said the conversation centered on priorities for security and included discussion of the administration’s commitment to building a border wall.

Democratic staffers requested more information in writing, which the administration expects to provide tonight or tomorrow.
