Masterful Trolling: Trump Suggests Republican Members Should Vote FOR Pelosi To Be Speaker

Shortly after it was understood that Democrats had won enough seats to secure a majority in the House of Representatives, President Trump offered an olive branch over to his opposing party.

As Washington Examiner reports, Trump, alongside Vice President Pence, made congratulatory calls to new Republican and Democrat lawmakers:

President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence made a round of calls to Republican and Democratic leadership Tuesday evening, offering them congratulations on their respective House and Senate victories.

“Tonight, President Trump called Leader Mitch McConnell to congratulate him on the historic senate gains. He also spoke with Speaker Paul Ryan and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement.

“The President called to congratulate Rick Scott, Mike DeWine, Kevin Cramer, Josh Hawley, Brian Kemp, and Ron DeSantis. Lastly, the President talked to Sen. Chuck Schumer. He and the Vice President will continue to make calls tonight and tomorrow,” Sanders said.

The peace offerings extended into Wednesday morning where Trump took to Twitter and personally congratulated Nancy Pelosi, who is expected to be the next Speaker of the House.

Trump said it was Pelosi’s effort and her leadership which helped Democrats win a majority in one legislative chamber.

The president went as far as to say he would encourage Republicans to vote in favor of her to be the next Speaker — regardless of what her own party wants.

“In all fairness, Nancy Pelosi deserves to be chosen Speaker of the House by the Democrats. If they give her a hard time, perhaps we will add some Republican votes. She has earned this great honor!”

The comment was cheekily perceived as masterful trolling from the president as, for months, Democrats have openly questioned whether they would support Pelosi or whether it was time for new leadership.

As Fox News also reports, Pelosi was interviewed about the new majority and was asked how she would lead the chamber:

“It’s about stopping the GOP and [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell’s assault on Medicare and Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and the health care of 130 million Americans living with pre-existing medical conditions,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi vowed that a House controlled by Democrats will work on behalf of ordinary Americans to make health care more affordable, raise workers’ wages, and reinvest in infrastructure to “create more good-paying jobs, (rebuild) roads, bridges schools, water systems, broadband networks, schools and housing and beyond.

And, the president’s congratulatory remarks or masterful trolling was not without some hostilities.

After the Democrat-majority was realized, reports quickly surfaced suggesting Democrats could use their new majority in the House to launch investigations into the Trump administration and into Trump himself.

Trump responded to the reports, saying, “Two can play that game.”

“If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level,” he also said.
