They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.
Luke 24:42-43

Here’s a math puzzler: how was Jesus 100 percent God and 100 percent man at the same time? It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the thought.

But here’s a clue: after the most amazing event in history, after being tortured and crucified unto death, only to come back to life, to be resurrected from the dead, Jesus, the Son of God, is what?

He’s hungry, and His disciples give Him a piece of boiled fish to eat.

It’s easy to read over that line of Scripture and not think about it, or to think it’s unimportant. But it’s actually super important, because it tells that Jesus, our Lord, God made flesh, was both God and man. He triumphed over death, but He also shared in our earthly concerns, our earthly needs.

There’s great comfort in that, because it means God understands everything about you – not just your thoughts and emotions, your sinfulness and your faithfulness. He even knows that you get hungry, that you get thirsty, that you get tired.

God is in the big things of creation, but He’s also in every little thing of every day. He’s lived as a man has. He knows what it is to be human.
