Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
Romans 13:1-2

Driving my Tundra truck with its hardy V8 early one morning through Wasilla, no traffic in sight, I saw those flashing lights.

“You were driving sixty-three in a forty-five-miles-per-hour zone,” the officer said.

I paid my fine and added, “But sir, I wasn’t speeding. I was qualifying.”

We are a nation ruled by law, not man. God is a God of law and order. Resisting sound authority is resisting Him, and consequences follow. My consequence for that early-morning sprint was $154 out of my pocket, but there are frequently tragic consequences to ignoring laws.

Beautiful, young Kate Steinle was murdered by an illegal immigrant who had already been deported five times. This seven-time felon purposely went to San Francisco, a “sanctuary city,” knowing he wouldn’t face consequences. An innocent woman was killed because those who were supposed to enforce laws and protect the public chose instead to ignore our immigration laws and put innocent people at risk. God expects just laws to be enforced. Those who break them must be judged accordingly.
